Chinook Salmon Oil Painting
Chinook Salmon, or King Salmon, are a big part of Oregon’s history and culture. This keystone species is a vital part of thriving river ecosystems. When salmon return from their great migration to the ocean, they bring with them important nutrients and food sources for other animals. This species is threatened in many areas and even extinct in others. This painting was made for the benefit of the Oregon Fish and Wildlife habitat restoration program in 2020. I used one of my favorite painting techniques called grisaille – Italian for grey area – to build up the values in this luminescent painting.
